There is stuff everywhere someone said it "looks better than last time" if that is true wow. Also I typically won't buy something if it is not priced in thrift shops due to it makes it a high pressure situation being told a price when there is 10+ people in line that have been waiting. I was here on Tuesday afternoon so on the weekends it must take even longer to be told prices that you could buy the stuff new for.

For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Lotz continued woodworking and his daughter Matilda, an avid artist since young childhood, began to expand her talents and specialized in painting portraits of animals. Her art skills would later be discovered as an adult (see section below). After his life was threatened, he abruptly sold the house and contents at a financial loss and the family left the area in a covered wagon to travel west across Indian country to settle in San Jose, California.

The Lotz family fled across the street to the Carter House and the two families hid in the Carter's basement witnessing a five-hour battle consisting of intense hand-to hand combat, considered one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War with 10,000 dead or wounded. The south wall of the Lotz's house was blasted away and cannon fire created holes in the roof and floors, but the structure could still serve as a field hospital later, with Lotz supervising the repairs. The Lotz family returned to their normal operations, although traumatized.
"About two and a half years ago Magdalen took my guided tour of the Lotz House and learned about the family," Lotz House Executive Director J.T. Thompson said. "She had particular interest in Matilda’s story and later came back and toured with our historian Thomas Y. Cartwright. Her intrigue led to more research and we’re thrilled to have someone help us preserve this compelling story we tell in order to keep the Lotz family story alive." Today, the town of Franklin is a poster-child example of Main Street restoration of a historic downtown, its streets lined with boutiques and crowded with tourists. But just a few hundred yards beyond its charming shops stand two witnesses to the carnage that once occurred there. Some 10,000 Americans died in the five-hour battle, the vast majority of them Confederates. Eyewitness reports say that near the fieldworks some men died standing up, the dead bodies stacked around them too tightly to permit them to fall.
On the day of the battle, the Lotz family was surprised by an endless stream of troops in wagons passing in front of their home. They became nervous, realizing that something intense was about to happen. From their front yard around two that afternoon, they could see a tidal wave of countless brown and grey uniforms — a Confederate attack was imminent. They took refuge in the cellar of their neighbors, the Carters, because their home was made from wood and was insufficient shelter for the spray of bullets that would soon erupt. The battle raged on for five hours while the Carter and Lotz family hunkered down in the cellar, terrified, the echoes of bullets and screams in their ears.
During the battle a solid shot cannon ball crashed through the roof, smashing into the floor of an upstairs bedroom and down to the first floor. The large repaired patch made by Mr. Lotz remains in the second floor. And on the first floor where the cannon ball finally came to rest one can clearly see where the hot lead ball first hit, burning the floor then rolled. One of three downtown Franklin homes open to the public to interpret the Battle of Franklin from the perspectives of the families who lived there, the Lotz House is TripAdvisor’s highest-rated attraction in Franklin. When you hear the story of how German immigrant Johann Albert Lotz and his young family survived the battle as it happened outside their home, you’ll understand why.
The employee couldn’t open her mouth fast enough to tell her the museum doesn’t have an Anne before the woman vanished into thin air. The Lotz House has three fireplaces with mantles that truly impress. All of them are carved from three different kinds of wood and in addition, the home has a free-floating, black walnut wrap-around handrail and cantilevered staircase. To accomplish such a feat in the mid-19th-century is remarkable. Even more, a post at the bottom of the staircase is actually an inverted leg of one of Mr. Lotz’s pianos, which he built as well. All of the carved finials, millwork, and architecture were designed and constructed by Lotz.
As one can see, the home meant a lot to Lotz and was a labor of love. Thompson has turned the house into a museum to the story of the Lotz family during the Civil War and a showcase for the Thompson family’s collection of American-made 19th century antiques, one that has been called the finest privately-owned collection in the country. The three fireplace mantles demonstrated his range from simple to very complex designs, all of them are carved from different kinds of wood. In addition, the home has an impressive free floating, black walnut wrap around hand rail and cantilevered staircase. To accomplish this engineering feat in the mid-19th century is truly remarkable.
It is reported that only once did she attempt to express her artistic ability on a vacant wall, but the discipline that followed was a life learned lesson. In autumn of 1869, the family was forced to leave the home in which Mr. Lotz took such pride in building. The Lotz House is also hosting a Living History Event with the 33rd Alabama/6th Indiana regiment Saturdayfrom 9 a.m. The Seventh Annual Living History event will provide educational interaction with visitors on the life of the soldiers — both Federal and Confederate — and the stories of the Battle of Franklin held Nov. 30, 1864. Visitors will see how the soldiers camp out, learn about their lifestyle and witness the stories they tell from the historic battle.

The Battle of Franklin is considered one of the bloodiest battles in Civil War history. When the noise stopped, the families emerged from their underground haven and were met with a scene straight out of a horror movie. The area was a wasteland, hundreds of bodies six-feet-deep and seventeen dead horses were lying in the Lotz yard.

A master carpenter and piano maker, Lotz built the house himself and incorporated into it architectural details meant to showcase his skills, including three fireplace mantles in different styles ranging from simple to ornate, and a stairway newel post that was actually a piano leg. The house, which has been on the National Historic Register since 1976 is located in the heart of downtown historic Franklin, Tennessee at “ground zero” of the Battle of Franklin which was a pivotal battle in the American Civil War. When not working, Lopez cherishes spending quality time with family and friends sharing stories with lots of good food, laughter and playing volleyball on any grass or beach court. Lopez believes her job is complete when her news stories about the community make a difference, as in the case of a piece she did on a sixth grade class that created a Facebook page to sell their homemade art to raise money for a classmate whose family couldn’t afford a proper funeral for his father.

History
In addition to guided house tours taking place throughout the day, specialized tours are available, including a ghost tour, a women’s history tour, and a battlefield tour with Civil War expert Thomas Y. Cartwright. On the day of the battle, the Lotz family was at first surprised to see a seemingly endless line of troops and supply wagons going in front of their house. Cannonball holes and burns can be seen inside the house to this day. Lotz was quick to repair the house, but was saddened that the repairs were done so hurriedly that the craftsmanship was shoddy.[4] The house became a field hospital after the battle.
We put fentanyl test strips to the test, and what we found could save someone you know. With all of the bloodshed that occurred here, it would be more surprising to learn that the Lotz house had no resident ghosts. Visitors to the museum report hearing war-like drum sounds coming from outside the home, only to assume it’s re-enactors. Some have even heard the drums coming from inside the home, shaking the bones of the property with their volume. In early 1864, the Union Army was expecting a Confederate attack at some point and began to mobilize large numbers of soldiers in the general area of the Lotz house.

Head through the door to confront the last part of Shadowheart’s quest and make quite a difficult choice in the process, as you’re faced with Shadowheart’s parents held in captivity by Shar. I recommend trying to keep yourself out of the main hallway chokepoint and using AOE spells to clear out one side. If you have to fight in the chokepoints, spells like Cloudkill or Hunger of Hadar can work wonders.

You are free to allow Shadowheart to investigate Mother Superior or kill her at this point. We recommend the former option so Shadowheart can have a proper closure to her story. Once Viconia DeVir has been defeated, you will get Viconia’s Walking Fortress legendary shield as a reward. Before starting the quest, make sure you have recruited Shadowheart. You can also start this quest without Shadowheart by talking to a man named Arves on a bridge north of Elerrathin’s Home. We also recommend recruiting Minsc and Jaheira for some additional dialogues.

Once you’re done with that, you can depart the House of Grief. A conversation with Shadowheart will put a final note on her storyline, but otherwise, you’re done with the Daughter of Darkness storyline and the House of Grief in Baldur’s Gate 3. An Inquirer of Grief will appear and begin asking questions. With a successful Perception check, the party can realize the Inquirer is using Detect Thoughts to probe through their thoughts. Selecting "Drop the act. You're not here to help - you're trying to dig around in my thoughts." will end the Mapping prematurely. If Shadowheart is in the party and sits on the bench, the Inquirer will forego the Mapping and simply reveal herself, telling Shadowheart she has much to discuss.

Perhaps of a loved one due to death or divorce, but also the loss of a job, a pet, financial stability, or safety after trauma. It is important to have patience with yourself and others during this process as it is a healthy part of healing.
If you’re wondering just where this place is, here is our handy guide for where to find the House of Grief in Baldur’s Gate 3. Talking to her will initiate dialogue options regarding the artefact that protects you from the Mind Flayers. You can choose to side with them in getting them as allies for the final battle, or defeat them to progress Shadowheart's story in finding her parents. It makes no difference whether or not you kill or spare Viconia DeVir, so make the choice based on how you’re roleplaying BG3.
In the process of grief counseling, we will work together to sort through many emotions, feelings and reactions. We will explore questions often asked including, “Will I ever be able to go on; will I ever be happy again? We might instantly become a single parent or widow, or we may no longer be caregivers. It is often common for us to experience loneliness, forgetfulness, difficulty sleeping, eating and much more. To help navigate this difficult journey, grief support counseling can help you begin the process of exploring a new grounded path towards healing, while honoring your loved one.

How to use the Mirror of Loss in Baldur's Gate 3 - PC Gamer
To do this, you can attack the fists guarding the checkpoint (not recommended) or pay them 200 gold. If you helped the Gnomes in the Grymforge and helped them escape Moonrise Tower, they’ll attack the guards, allowing you to run past the checkpoint. Investigate the House of Grief is a quest in Act Three of Baldur's Gate 3. It can be started by speaking with Arves in the Lower City. Be sure to check out all of our other guides for Baldur’s Gate 3, as well as our official review of the game. Above are some offerings you can make to the altar to unlock the Threshold of Loss door.
To progress Shadowheart’s story, the quest Daughter of Darkness must be completed. In this quest, we learn why Shadowheart worships Shar and whether it is possible to save her. For Shadowheart‘s companion quest, you must find the House of Grief and complete a fearsome crypt.
Sean has also written for EDGE, Eurogamer, PCGamesN, Wireframe, EGMNOW, and Inverse. Whether you chose to kill or free the Nightsong will alter your reception to some degree, but there are points of interest in the House of Grief either way. If you haven't found an entrance to the House of Hope yet, you should grab the surveillance notes about Gortash that are on a table in the Infiltration Training room on the lower level. If you do decide to face off against the cult, you can also loot the Legendary Viconia's Walking Fortress shield from Viconia DeVir. I spent a long time running around the area before I found the lookout.
If you go to the South, where you fought Viconia DeVir, you will notice a barricade. Destroy it with your weapons or any fire spells to find a ladder. This ladder will lead you to a cave with Night Orchids in it. Aside from this spell, you can also get near any light source to prevent getting damaged by the Darkness. Viconia is not only immune to Radiant damage, but she can reflect the damage 2x to the attacker.
Refusing to give Shadowheart will trigger a battle with every enemy in the room, but you will able to progress her story in finding her parents. Strangely enough, we only read of certain tidbits experienced by random people recounted via voiceover. Our character didn't gain a new power, ability, or passive. You can talk her down, but more likely you’ll need to fight her, especially if Shadowheart is involved.
There, you’ll find a shabby tent-like setup next to a well with a man named Ferg Drogher standing underneath it. This man is a peddler of mementos, and, believe it or not, a Sharran. Use Shadowheart to talk to him and he’ll nudge her to the Cloister of Sombre Embrace—a Sharr temple underneath the House of Grief. If you’ve managed to make it this far without knowing the answer to that question, you probably need to stop skipping the cutscenes in Baldur’s Gate 3. Shadowheart is arguably the most core companion in BG3, as one of the first friendly faces you meet (alongside Lae’zel) and bringing the Artifact into play.

Enter the house to meet the Attendant of Grief Mirie who ask you to undergo submitting a Mapping of the Heart within the house. This will progress the quest of Shadowheart if she is in your party. "This is your choice" or "Remain silent" - This will also cause the death of Shadowheart's parents. Shar, the Mother of Night, chides you for your foolish efforts. You're told that, if Shadowheart frees her parents, she'll continue to suffer from her curse.
How to Find the Location of House of Grief in Baldur’s Gate 3
Either way, this is the destination where Shadowheart’s final major plot point occurs. The House of Grief is a hidden temple to the Goddess Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3. This area plays a major factor in Shadowheart’s story as it is where her parents are being held captive.

House of Grief is actually in a very accessible location, though, and you can find it right away. So, let’s break down the House of Grief’s location in Baldur’s Gate 3, so you can save Shadowheart. If you successfully pass the religion check, the mirror of loss will let you gain new memories. This will allow you to gain 2 points in any ability you like. However, you can only use one character once to gain ability points. You can also deceive the mirror into losing fake memories (no loss to ability points) and gain new memories (+2 to any ability).

The Stolen Vigour can be removed through the Remove Curse spell. This leaves you with the beneficial +2 stat if you successfully offered a prayer. It has been observed that the more valuable the item in gold, the lower the altar descends to open the door. You will want to part with items that you do not need, such as unused armor, weapons, or highly-priced items like ingots. The optional cheese option above may be possible until a new patch is fixed. Succeeding in her persuasion (DC30) of asking her to spare you will cause her to be neutral to you instead of hostile.
Ask Shadowheart to kill her parents, save them, or let Shadowheart decide. If you’re trying to access this area for the first time as part of Shadowheart’s personal quest, you need to go inside and speak to the elf Mirie. Whenever your conversation with Mirie ends, you’re then directed to a backroom where you can gain access to a hidden Temple of Shar below. But once you’re inside, you’ll be faced with some pretty significant questions, including whether or not you should save or kill Shadowheart’s parents.
The Mirror of Loss
This quest serves to introduce you to the House of Grief if Shadowheart is absent or her companion quest isn’t a priority, so our walkthrough will ensure you don’t miss out. Once you've found a way to enter Wyrm's Crossing and lower the drawbridge to Wyrm's Rock fortress, you'll have access to the Lower City—the main area of Act 3. This is where you can find the House of Grief in the far northwest corner of the region. It'll take you a while to trek across the city, especially if you're easily distracted by NPCs and quests, but once you find the Baldur's Gate waypoint, you're pretty close. From there, head south until you reach the statue of Balduran, take a shortcut west through the garden, then go north across the bridge to find the House of Grief itself. Allow her to make it quick and she will ask about her parents.

Baldur's Gate 3: Where to find the House of Grief and the Sharran Lookout.
Viconia is a tough boss, so you’ll have to get your hands dirty if you want to save Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3. Make sure to spam radiant damage via the Sunbeam spell, as all Sharran disciples are vulnerable to it. Let Shadowheart unleash all her fury in the form of Scared Flame and Guiding Bolt spells to deal fire and thunder damage to Mother Superior. Daylight is another useful spell to dispel the darkness created by Sharran’s disciples. It is a very nice surprise for the veterans of the franchise, as Viconia is a companion from Baldur’s Gate 2. At this point, Viconia DeVir demands that you surrender Shadowheart to her and side with Sharran’s disciples.
She will tell Shadowheart that they are through the door in the Chamber of Loss. As you converse with her, you will be given additional chances to end the conversation and kill her. If you killed Viconia, you get Viconia's Walking Fortress, Viconia's Priestess Robe and Handmaiden's Mace. The House of Grief is a dangerous dungeon filled with many enemies and traps.
Baldur's Gate 3: Where to find the House of Grief and the Sharran Lookout
This can be a tough fight, so use the tactics found in Shadowheart’s Companion Quest if you’re having trouble. These double doors can additionally be bypassed with the Grief Key she carries on her person. We recommend that you find and use Blessing of Selune to protect the party from Sharran’s disciples’ attacks.
The more pressing matter, once you head down the steps, will be fighting and defeating Viconia DeVir. This fight can be difficulty due to the overwhelming amount of enemies in the room. Note that this does not grant you entry into the Chamber of Loss where Shadowheart's parents reside, and unlocking the door to the chamber will cause all of them in the area to fight you. Ideally, you'll want to go all-out with AoE spells, such as Cloudkill, Destructive Wave, Ice Storm, and the like. Likewise, there are high-tier Illithid Powers, like Black Hole, that can be used to gain an advantage.
Everyone experiences loss differently based on their personality, culture, and beliefs, among many other factors. If you are having trouble coping on your own, or know of someone who could use extra support, a therapist can assist. Though you can simply show up the House of Grief on your own, you can also get a clue as to the location early on in Act Three. Near the supply stockpile in Rivington is a man dressed in black armor by the name of Ferg Drogher. This character has special dialog for Shadowheart if she’s in your party and can start on you the direction towards the House of Grief. When you first encounter the Sharr lookout in Rivington, you’re given your next instruction. Go to the House of Grief and face the consequences of your actions and try to save your parents.
Your choice here will affect your progress updates for this quest and Surrender Shadowheart to Viconia. During this interaction, you need to choose between Shadowheart or Sharran followers. Defending Shadowheart leads to a fight with Viconia and Sharran disciples. Surrender Shadowheart and Lady Shar's faithful will join you in Gather Your Allies quest.
Before you venture to this area, you should know the decisions you have made for Shadowheart so far will have major consequences in this area. Act Three of Baldur’s Gate 3 has the most places of interest by far, with many being related to your party members’ personal stories. This is the case for the House of Grief, as the building is essential to completing Shadowheart’s storyline. The Sharran Lookout is located in Rivington east near the refugees’ barn.
